On October 13, 2019,the entire staff members of the school of oversea education and the class monitors set out at 8:30am in the morning for a day’s trip to a very beautiful place in Guiyang, guizhou province called ‘gaopo’which is about one hour from the school.
Everyone was excited about the program,we were given a customized white t-shirt for uniformity to mark the event, the bus drive was peaceful.
We arrived our destination at about 9:40am,we all took a group picture with the banner designed specially for the program,we then walked for about 2km to see the beautiful scenery of gaopo,we saw a lot of mountains and valleys,a lot of fowls that we don’t normally see on a daily basis here in china,we even saw bufallos,we also saw wells of water. Gaopo is a tourist center, people come from all over guizhou, so we saw a lot of camping tents and buildings. It was a great time ,we definitely took a lot of beautiful pictures.
We walked a few metres back to the location when the main activities were to be held. We started out by dividing ourselves into three teams, consisting of both students and teachers, each team was then given about 30 minutes to choose a color, group name, a logo,a slogan and a pose, we were all given time to showcase our teams, we had color red, green and yellow, the red team was called ‘the red warriors’, the green team was called ‘ninjas’ and the yellow team was called ‘yellow tigers’.
We participated in three games ,the first was members of each team were asked to hold a long light metal stick with their index fingers, and each team was required to let the stick down in one accord without any member removing their finger from the stick, it seemed so easy yet it was difficult, the red warriors emerged winners of this game.
In the second game each team member was given a half cut pipe and were required to form a long route with those pieces of pipe to allow continuous movement of a ball, a table tennis ball was used, we had a final destination; into a bowl which was far away from the starting point, the team which put in 5 balls into the bow, within the shortest period of time was to be the winner, the ninjas were the first this time around.
Then it was time for a third game, every team formed a circle, each member of every team was given a long pipe to place vertically on the ground, then we were to go about in circle and changing positions to holding the persons pipe in front of us making sure no pipe falls to the ground on the process, there was no winner for the game, we were only required to complete this task, which we all did.
After completion of all the games we sat down to discuss what we learnt from the game, why we think som of us failed and why some succeeded. We all learned in the process that coordination and trust are very important in having a successful team, if everyone is coordinated except one person then the whole group effort becomes wasted, we learnt not to blame each other for any failure but try to overlook and look forward, we also learnt how to work under pressure.
After the activities, it was time for performances, there were mainly singing and dancing, and both teachers and students participaed equally,it was a great time
Finally the goal of the program was achieved because we learn how to effectively participate as a team which is a great quality we need as office staff and class officers.
